Happy National Book Day!
Even with the prolific amount of apps and kindles and digital mediums available to our tech-savvy kids, I still have a lot of heart for books. I appreciated my parents (who actually aren't big readers) instilling in me a love for reading with trips to libraries and bookstores. So i hope to do the same for Winter and Nyla. In honor of National Book Day, I wanted to share some of the family favorites:
Pete the Cat I love my white shoes - easy for Winter to remember, and we sing it more than we read it!
Gerald and Piggy series - I love how Mo Willems writes these conversational stories - and I can assume these will be winter's first (sight?) readers because of the simplicity of words
Please, baby please - hilarious (to me) because of the switch of context for the younger set. But amazing because this was the first book Winter actually recited/read (from memory?) in its entirety.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom - first book I purchased when I was pregnant. it's a staple.
Eric Carle series - though famous for his hungry catepillar book, the most picked up title in our home is Brown Bear What do You see.
Dragons Love Tacos - a favorite when i started instituting tuesday taco nights for dinner. Don't eat the spicy salsa!
Rosie Revere, Engineer - Ok, this one is more my favorite because of the female lead in a science/math role and her crazy aunt teaching her failure is all part of the learning process.
This list could go on and on ... I love when friends gift us books, there can never be enough, and the girls' weekly trips to the library bring me as much excitement to see the new books they come home with (i think i want to read them more than they do!). There's soooo many choices that I always wonder what they end up gravitating to when they pick books. We're always looking for new favorites! If you have one, please leave a comment below!
